Postknight 2 Turning Tide

Postknight 2 is an RPG-like adventure game developed by Kurechii. It is the sequel to the first Postknight game.


In 2023, I had the opportunity to be part of the development team, contributing to the new area: Wastelands.

My Role in the Turning Tides Update

Early 2023, I took on the role of supporting lead for the Wastelands setup in Postknight 2, part of the Turning Tides Major Update (v2.0), released on September 26, 2023.


Turning Tides - v2.0 Wastelands Update!

Unlike the Wintertide event from my previous work, I was involved in every step of development for Wastelands.


It was both 10x more stressful and 10x more rewarding! While I can't reveal every technical detail, here's where I contributed:


Key Contributions

⚔️ Weapon Trait Design

I designed and validated several new weapon traits for this update:


  • Blackout Dance: Final Slash deals additional damage based on HP lost.


  • Blade's Flourish: Charge skills will cause a blast on each enemy hit, dealing 15% damage to everything around.


  • Fate's Buffer: Gain 30% of Max HP as armour and receive double damage for 5 seconds. Any remaining armour percentage is converted into additional HP.

🐾 Wastelands Pet Setup

The update introduced two new pets:

  • Sand Angel

  • Golpy

I handled the full setup for these pets in Leila's Market and the Premium Market, including:


  • Configurations for in-app purchases (IAPs)

  • Pet fashion setup

  • Promotional deal setup for both new pets


Fun fact: Can you guess which animals inspired these new companions?


🏘️ Market, Inn, Blacksmith & Alchemist Setup

I was responsible for setting up and validating the Wastelands Town economy:


  • Items for sale in the Market

  • Armoury and potion upgrades

  • Configuring drop rates and end-of-battle items in the Main Quest (new potions & armoury sets included!)


🏆 Achievements Setup

The Wastelands update also brought new achievements and secret achievements which I set up and validated.


No spoilers — but if you're hunting for secret achievements... let’s just say, it involves crabs 🦀😉


💎 Premium Market V2

One of my biggest responsibilities during the update was the creation of Premium Market V2.

The Problem:

The previous version only allowed one item to be purchased per transaction. Players couldn’t make multiple purchases in one go (imagine having to buy 45 Gold Ores separately!).


The Solution:

I designed and built the entire Premium Market V2 system from scratch:


  • Set up in a brand-new database

  • Built for scalability and designer-first flexibility (no programmer needed for trade setups!)

  • Worked closely with the UI programmer to establish a robust framework

  • Collaborated with the producer to improve UX — from pricing and quantity to visuals and descriptions


All IAPs, weekly/monthly deals, character customisation items, and rare item deals now run through this new system.


🌟 Legacy Fashion: A New Lucky Draw System

Alongside the Premium Market revamp, we introduced Legacy Fashion, a lucky draw system that gives players another chance to collect missed Prism Pass fashions.

What is Prism Pass?


  • A monthly pass where players complete daily quests to earn Pass Points

  • Two reward tiers: Free and Premium

  • The Premium tier unlocks higher-value rewards, including exclusive monthly fashion items


How Legacy Fashion Works:


  • Players can draw for missed fashion items from previous Prism Passes.

  • If they get duplicates, they receive Fashion Tokens.

  • Accumulate enough tokens, and players can directly exchange them for the fashion piece they want!

Final Thoughts

Working on the Turning Tides v2.0 Wastelands update was a huge milestone in my game design career. From market scalability to player experience enhancements and creative system design — it was exciting, challenging, and rewarding.
